I finally got the Scrappy Trees quilt top finished! The blocks are so big in this quilt I thought it would be boring to have plain triangles finish it off. I was inspired by Bonnie Hunter’s new book ” String Fling” where she adds lots of string pieced blocks to her quilts. She makes the blocks and then cuts them up and puts them back together in new ways. The hardest part was trying to figure out what size to make the blocks so I could cut them up and sew them back together. There was some trial & error.
After I added the string-pieced triangles in neutral background colors, I wanted to add some color so I pieced scraps into a border using the same techniques as the leaves on the trees. The outside border is a brown print that pulls it all together. Now I just have to quilt it. Thinking about how I want to do that. In the meantime, I’m putting it away for a while to work on something new.
